about the gate:
I started the gate with one objective: share how life-changing the real story and life of Jesus are.
In Genesis chapter 28 Jacob awakes from a dream. Verse 17 says, "He was afraid and said, 'How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God; this is the gate of heaven.'"
My wish is that this site would function as a gate into heaven, testifying to the faithfulness of God and the certainty of His promises. My prayer is that these stories - from the painful, fractured world we live in - can awaken us so that we, like Jacob, can peek into God's majesty and stand in awe. My hope is that this site is a dwelling place of The Lord’s presence and wisdom. Your life’s circumstances may not change after you read my blog, but I know the truth can change a heart.
My story:
My name is Emily. I was born and raised on a peach farm in Western Colorado. I learned from a very young age the importance of hard work, time outdoors, and sunscreen. I love the mountains, especially if I’m exploring them with my husband, son, and our two dogs. I am a high school English teacher who is mediocre at plant care, spontaneous, and infatuated with good looking charcuterie boards.
More seriously, I am honored to share with you the challenges and victories I experience along with the revelations I discover in my pursuit of intimacy with the Creator, but here’s the honest truth: I am a broken vessel. I always wonder if I have anything good to share, let alone the right to share it, but I know God -in his grace- shines brightly through the cracks within each of us. We, the imperfect many, are God’s choice of ambassador. Imagine how inefficient a lamp would be if its shade was dark and impermeable. Instead, lamps with transparent shades brightly share light. The holes of the vessel are where the light comes through best. God is a marvelous story-teller. I'm convinced he uses the stories of ordinary people, willing to be vulnerable and transparent, to do extraordinary things. My longing, regardless of where you are in life, is that you would leave this site empowered to share your heart. My hope is that this site would assure you of God’s sovereignty. At a minimum, I wish a peace over you knowing you're not the only one struggling, hurting, and questioning the complex realities of life in a broken world.
